Job Description
Reports to the Director of Developer Experience
Who we are
Blues Wireless aims to put people and businesses better in touch with their world by unlocking the vast potential of cellular IoT.
The Notecard™, currently in beta, is a simple, cost-effective embeddable cellular IoT solution for cloud-based monitoring and connected operations. It Just works, with no cellular subscription required.
We are a small team, but we’ve done this all before, many times over, and have several decades of combined experience across startups, in software, hardware, connectivity, at companies large, small, and in-between. We’re currently gearing up for a public launch, and we need your help to get there.
The Role
Do you love combining your love of software, firmware, and hardware to bring your ideas to life? Do you enjoy digging into complex technical topics and sharing what you learn in a clear and accessible way? Do you love communicating as much as you love writing code, but you’d never trade one for the other? If this sounds like you, we’d love to talk to you about joining Blues Wireless as an IoT Content & Projects Engineer.
What you'll do:
- Write engaging content that explores the technical aspects of our products and the IoT landscape.
- Create code samples, documentation and tutorial projects that help developers harness the power of cellular IoT in their project.
- Create, manage and maintain SDKs and open-source tools across a variety of programming languages and development toolchains.
- Ensure our API documentation remains up-to-date, accurate and useful to developers.
- Create end-to-end reference projects, guides, and application notes based on the needs of our developer community.
- Work with the engineering and product teams to improve our products based on your hands-on experience.
- Participate in the creation of video, interactive and other online content through ideation, project creation, and storyboarding.
- Participate in our forum and in other online communities to unblock developers and uncover new content and project opportunities.
Who you are:
Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant technical experience.
- Fluent in written US English.
- Experience with both software and firmware development.
- Language polyglot, comfortable in C, C++, Python, Arduino Wiring, and JavaScript. You don’t need to be an expert in all of these but should be comfortable building projects for each if the need arises.
- Comfortable building end-to-end IoT apps, including web, cloud, and mobile.
- Strong writing skills and an ability to distill complex topics into easy-to-understand concepts.
- Comfortable working remotely with a distributed team.
Preferred Qualifications
- An online portfolio of previous projects and written content is a plus.
- Experience with open source products, tools and communities, either as an active contributor, or regular committer is a plus.
- Experience in one of more IoT offerings from the major cloud vendors (Microsoft, Amazon, Google) is a plus.
- Hands-on hardware experience is a plus. If you own a soldering iron, have been known to spin your own PCBs, and haven’t met a surface-mount component that you couldn’t tackle, that’s a double-plus.
Some of our benefits:
- Competitive salaries & equity
- Heavily subsidized medical, dental, and vision
- Unlimited PTO & flexible work schedules
- Choice of equipment
- Small, cross-functional team
- Strong emphasis on collaboration & mentorship
Why now is an exciting time to join
We're in private beta pushing toward our public launch! You will be part of shaping the product, processes and culture for years to come. We need doers who are also leaders - come help us!
